“Vichienket Family Sculpture Exhibition ‘51”

07-12 January, 2008
City Gallery, the Siam City Hotel, Bangkok

Part of the Proceeds Will Benefit the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer for the Underprivileged, Thai Red Cross Society

Thailand’s leading artist family presents 70 contemporary large and small scale bronze sculptures honouring the philosophy that unity and harmony are the means to achieving peace. On show are works by celebrated Thai sculptor and National Artist, Chamruang Vichienket, those of his wife and distinguished sculptress, Saovapa, and sons, sculptor, Yanpol and painter, Nithi.

Ajarn Chamruang displays a bronze casting of his award-winning piece title, “Group,” which was recently installed at the Bank of Thailand’s new wing. Saovapa presents her newest project, a sculpture of the Lord Buddha, in the graceful style of the Sukhothai period. She carries forward her signature theme of “Mother and Child” with a piece, titled, “Life Games” comparing the guidelines of mothering to the rules of a sporting game. Accomplished sculptor, Yannapol Vichienket, reveals a humoristic approach to his work, drawing on everyday household items. Nithi Vichienket, the only painter in the family, joins the sculptors with a display of unique paintings using unusual combinations of colour to represent the idea of “harmony.”

Exhibition hours are from 10:00 hrs. until 20:00 hrs. daily. The City Gallery is located on the 2nd level of the Garden Pavilion.
