DARING ARTIST DUO PRESENT
A DAZZLING DISPLAY OF CONTEMPORARY
GLASS ART & TEXTILE CREATIONS
“Wilderness,”
An Outstanding Collective of Glass Arts, Textile Design and Jewelry
Inspired by the Changing Seasons
13-24 March, 2008, City Gallery, The Siam City Hotel, Bangkok
Glass artist, Prapat Jiwarangsan, and textile artist, Arisara Dandprapai, present “Wilderness”, an outstanding collective of contemporary textile design, jewelry and glass arts, inspired by the changing seasons, March 13-24, 2008 at the City Gallery of the Siam City Hotel, Bangkok.

The peacefulness of a woodland trek under a canopy of colourful leaves and branches plays muse to Arisara’s intricate textile designs consisting of large and small textured wall hangings, murals, carpets and soft furnishings. Each canvas is a kaleidoscope of naturally woven yarns, copper, leather and tree bark.
Considered one of Thailand’s accomplished few glass artisans, young and gifted glass designer, Prapat Jiwarangsan, displays a variety of bowls, vases and fused-glass jewelry with styles ranging from functional to the more expressive sculptural forms. Displays include elegant pieces with geometric art-deco motifs; free-form works that blend translucency, light and colour for a dramatic and novel effect; and trendy, “funky” jewelry pieces which combine glass with Arisara’s textiles.
Very few artists in Thailand have ventured into the ancient art of glassblowing and engraving with such conviction. Throughout its history, the production of glass has followed the ebb and flow of empires all over the world. Today, with the discovery of new glass production techniques, there has been a rebirth of glass-art studios and workshops that allow artists such as Prapat the use of small home-studio furnaces. This trend has accelerated the development of glass design both nationally and internationally. But each creation is as individual as the maker. Drawing on the concept of an intangible Dhamma, Prapat’s designs visually manifest themselves in the solid form of sculpted glass. Wilderness exhibition illuminates “Dhamma in nature” - the impermanence of all things.
The exhibition runs from the 13th to the 24th of March 2008 at the City Gallery located on the 2nd level of the Siam City Hotel, Bangkok’s charming colonial style Garden Pavilion. The Gallery in opened daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
