Gentaro Takada
Born in Tokyo, Gentaro Takada began to play the electric and acoustic guitar at 14, and began studying classical guitar under Prof. Yuji Konno at 18. In 1987, he won several important prizes in Japan including 1st prize at “GLC Guitar Competition” and “Spanish Guitar Music Competition”; and 2nd prize at the International Guitar Competition, "Jose Luis Gonzales".
In 1988, he gave his debut recital in Tokyo, and has since won several top prizes in various international guitar competitions, of particular note, are 1st prize at “Concurso Internacional International” in Alhambra, Spain (1988); 1st prize at “Primer Encuentro de Guitarra Argentina” (1992) and Special Juror's Prize at “Concurso Internacional Manuel Ponce” in Mexico (1994).
From 1993-1996, Gentaro was Head of Faculty of Guitar at the “Concervatorio Nacional de Musica” at La Paz, Bolivia, and during his 4th year, taught many master classes and gave many concerts throughout South America. Gentaro has studied under Prof. Yuji Konno in Japan; Jose Luis Gonzales in Spain; and Abel Carlevaro, Eduardo Fernández and Alvaro Pierri in Uruguay. He has translated a famous guitar method "School of the Guitar" by Abel Carlevaro, becoming a recognized authority on teaching the Carlevaro Method in Japan.
Currently he is teaching at University of Music Showa in Tokyo, Japan.
Gentaro has released numerous recordings including: "Astor Piazzolla: Las cuatro estaciones Porteñas" and "Rocks on the Guts".
