World Environment Day (June 5)

World Environment Day (WED) is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.

The agenda is to give a human face to environmental issues; empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development; promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues; and advocate partnership which will ensure all nations and peoples enjoy a safer and more prosperous future. You can do your part by conserving water, recycling waste, limiting your carbon footprint and spreading the word that we can ALL do our part, as every little bit helps. Remember, we have many species but only one planet and future!

In accordance with World Environment Day, all Siam Group staff and management are firmly committed to protecting the environment and consistently upgrading the “green” standards of each property. Each hotel’s Environmental Committee regularly organises training and awareness activities for staff and the local community. Examples in 2009 included: tree planting in Prachiburi, staff recycling competition in Bangkok and growing and purchasing local produce in Pattaya. In 2010 we are continuing with World Environment Day, but also clean office month, neighbourhood and beach clean-ups, car-free day, paper recycling collection, Save Energy Day, temple donation drive and CH4-free canteen food, just to name a few.

Similarly, we invite all visiting Siam guests to be a part of our effort to save the environment for a cleaner and brighter future. For example, we can all be “responsible travellers” by re-using towels, not wasting water and turning lights and air-conditioning off when not wanted.
